Overview

This is one of the best classic fantasy books of all time.  The prequel to J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings, this story is a bit faster paced than its followers, which makes it a better fit for young readers, or anyone wishing to break into the LOTR books.  Bilbo Baggins is a hobbit who is invited on the journey of a lifetime.  His quest if filled with dwarves, wizards, elves, dragons, and the other creatures of Middle Earth.  The movies made from this book, while still excellent, are a poor representation of the book.  Our suggestion, as always, is to read the book first.

Overview

Katniss Everdeen lives in District 12, one of 12 districts in an unknown, possibly future-Earth world, led by a city called the Capital.  Every year, in punishment for the rebellion of the districts (in which District 13 was destroyed), each District must offer a boy and a girl to compete in the Hunger Games, a contest in which the 24 “tributes” are thrown into an arena and fight to the death.  When Katniss is selected, she must prepare for a fight for her life.  This award-winning book can’t miss (which is a pun you will understand when you read the book) with fans of Action and Adventure.  The books in the its sequel is Catching Fire, and the final book in the trilogy is Mockingjay.
